Funeral of Rosario Moraila de García, 1924

1924 Funeral of Rosario Moraila de García at Iglesia de Purísimo Corazón de Maria in Ensenada. Pallbearers are sons José María, Abraham, Clemente, ?, Francisco, and son-in-law Victor Federico “Freddy” Goldbaum.

A few years back I met my cousin Rio Healey-Diaz when he visited Los Angeles from New Zealand on his way to Mexico to discover his heritage. Rio is the great-great-grandson of Jovita García Díaz Higgins Cunningham. While Rio was here, my cousin David Hernández described to him the location of the graves of my great-great-grandparents Francisco García and Rosario Moraila de García in Ensenada as he remembered from decades ago: “You can see the grave from the street.”

Amazingly, using only this description, Rio was able to find the graves. He cleaned them and proudly texted me these images. A couple years later when I visited Ensenada I decided to see if I could also find the graves. We had a driver and I told him the same vague description, and off we went to see if any of the local cemeteries might fit that description. We found one and systematically searched among the graves along the street side of the cemetery, and we were also able to find the graves.

To save some detective work for any family who might like to visit, Francisco and Rosario are buried between their daughter Trinidad “Trini” and her husband Victor Federico “Freddy” Goldbaum at the Panteón Jardín Modelo along Coral in the Maestros district of Ensenada.
